A Little on Online Gambling History
The idea of online gambling first starting rooting in 1994 when the government of Antigua Bermuda passed an act that allowed online operations to obtain licenses for the purpose of opening online casinos. That same year one of the most famous software developers for the online gambling industry, Microgaming (MG), was established and CryptoLogic shortly after. All the hype actually gave the online gambling industry a popularity increase and in the second year of existence there were $1 billion in sales.
The popularity only seemed to grow and online casinos starting sprouting up everywhere and in 1998 there were over 700 online casinos in business. In 1999 Microgaming decided to team up with PriceWaterhouseCoopers for online audits and reports on payout percentages. This furthered the perception in regards to safety and security which was the biggest concern when it came to online gambling facilities and the boom continued to increase.
In 2000, two more countries, Gibraltar and the Isle of Man began offering casino licenses. Although throughout the years the US has tried very hard to stop online gambling it has had no success. As the industry continues to grow, so do the legal challenges but the online gambling industry still revenues over $49 billion dollars a year.
